Name  Peptidase S8A, fervidolysin Short Name  Peptidase_S8A_fervidolysin
Type  Family Description  This entry contains serine peptidases belonging to MEROPS peptidase family S8A (subtilisin family, clan SB). Fervidolysin, from Fervidobacterium pennivoransis synthesized in an immature form with a propeptide (PD)-bound to the active site, once activated it is involved in the degradation of keratin. The crystal structure of fervidolysin has been resolved to 1.7A. It is composed of four domains: a catalytic domain (CD), two beta-sandwich domains (SDs), and the PD domain. Structural alignment shows a distant relationship between the PD-CD substructure of fervidolysin and pro-subtilisin E [].
